Turn a Oyster Datejust into a Datejust turn-o-graph?

Hi,

I have a Oyster perpetual datejust from 2002 and I've just seen some of the cool looking new Perpetual datejust turn-o-graph’s at the local jewelers.

I asked the jeweler if I could replace my fixed gold ziz-zag bezel with a silver or white-gold l turn-o-graph bezel. He said they did not fit and they would also not be allowed to do it even if they did. Does anyone know if they do fit as it all looks the same size to me?
