Chat with Discord voice on your PS5

While some hardcore gamers might prefer using TeamSpeak due to its structural integrity, Discord has become the go-to platform for communication between gamers these days. Its successful integration of text messaging alongside voice and video calls into one app made Discord irreplaceable, but they’ve been missing from one notable community. However, despite brokering a partnership deal in May 2021, PlayStation still doesn't officially support the popular voice-over-IP (VoIP) application. But it looks like that is about to change.

Among the unearthed data is the line "Now you're ready to join a call on your PS5. Grab your headset and controller!" as well as "We have new features for PS5 users. Hang out with Discord friends while playing games in voice chat." The data strings are backed up by various images which also mention voice chat features on PS5.

This is evidenced by the +PS_LINK_SUCCESS_BODY string description, which reads: "Head over to a voice channel to try it out! Chat with Discord voice on your PS5. Show which games you're playing with rich presence, and more." In addition, these users can transfer a voice call to their PlayStation 5, routing audio input and output through the chosen console. Discord will also display the games that users play on the PlayStation 5.

And while Discord users can link their accounts with their PlayStation 5 consoles to access the voice chat while playing games, it seems that screen sharing might be coming at a later time. This update will not fully integrate the application on ‌ consoles, considering that PlayStation 4 owners won’t be able to use any of the features mentioned in this build. PS4 users who connect to their account will only make use of ”rich presence”, which will display the game they are playing on Discord.

Further evidence of PlayStation and Discord voice chat integration surfaced back in October 2022 when a user claimed to have received messages about the feature. It's worth noting that the images they shared at the time appear to closely resemble those from the recent datamine.
