It will be a faint grinding or as you described it like a ball rolling around or "whooshing" sound. It should be an even sound unlike somthing possibly moving around within the case. If it is too loud, I would have it looked at to make sure it is properly lubricated.
What you are describing might be okay, but better to be safe than sorry. With proper service and maintenace, these watches will last forever.
