I am also a pilot (not professional, just as a hobby) and had been looking at Emergency watches. Unfortunately, 121.5 will no longer be monitored as an emergency frequency after 2009, so the key feature that diferentiates this watch - ability to be located based on the emergency frequency brodacast, will be all but useless. Some of us are so used to monitor the "guard frequency" 121.5 why flying that a signal from the watch may be caught by an aircraft flying by, but the global monitoring as it is today will be gone.

The new frequency will be on 406 Mhz but format requires a GPS location to be sent within the signal, so I doubt any watch will be able to do this. Instead, there are several Personal Emergency Locators that incorporate both GPS and emergency transmitter, becoming available for sale. For example, one can be bought here http://www.chiefaircraft.com/airsec/Aircraft/ELT/Artex.html
