From a collectors point of view and assuming you wish to buy a brand new model then the answer is simple. Neither. Modern Submariner's and GMT's are both excellent watches but have little 'collectible' status. They are made in large numbers with few significant changes for over 15 years. My advice is to look for something rarer such as a 1680 'Red' Submariner from the late 60's / early 70's preferably with the original box and paperwork. Nice condtion 'Red' Subs are priced at approximately the same value as a new TT Submariner. You can wear them everyday and they will perform just as well as a 'modern Rolex'. You should see an excellent return on your investment and be classed as a 'true' collector of the marque.      Post Reply
