The bezel on the GMT or Explorer II is marked 1-24. This is equivalent to military time. 12= 12:00 noon, and 24 = midnight. The 24 hour hand is then alligned with the bezel according to the correct time in the time zone of interest. So if you are in New York, and it is midnight, the conventional hands read at the 12:00 mark. The time in San Francisco may be read using the 24 hour hand and bezel. Here it is 9 pm so the hand points to the 21 marker on the bezel. The GMT II has a redundant functionality. The 24 hour hand may be independently adjusted as the bezel is. The GMT II is really a combination of Explorer II where the hand is adjustable and the bezel is fixed, and the GMT I where only the bezel is independently adjustable. So you may choose a time zone, and set the bezel so that the hand points to the correct military (24 hour) time. Then, provided the bezel doesn't turn, the 24 hour hand will always point the the correct time of the zone of interest on the 24 bezel. Hope this helps, beautiful watch. Enjoy       Post Reply
