But my impression is that the alarm "beeper" is the only thing that really uses power. There's a lot of variation in how fresh a battery is (sitting around for 18 months? Or brand new?) before it goes into a watch. In any case you should get about three years, and by then the water resistance of the seals (case and stem especially) is usually shot and they need replacement, making the battery a trivial addition to the seal replacements.
